It’s completely normal to feel anxious about your first psychiatric appointment, but knowing what to expect can help ease your concerns. This initial evaluation typically lasts 60 minutes, though it may be extended if more time is needed.

Before the appointment, please complete any intake forms provided. This allows me to focus on understanding you more deeply during our time together. In our session, we’ll explore your inner world with respect and compassion, considering the social, environmental, and personal factors that have shaped your experiences and brought you to this point.

We will discuss your current symptoms as well as your hopes and goals for treatment. I’ll gather a comprehensive history, including your past psychiatric, medical, social, and family background, along with any previous treatments or therapies you’ve tried. We’ll work together to understand how your symptoms fit into the context of both your past and present experiences.

Identifying the root cause of your symptoms may take time, and at times it may feel challenging or even unsettling. But I’m here to take the time necessary to really understand your story. Together, we will develop a treatment plan that aligns with your core values and goals.
